ingenetix GmbH is a specialized leader in molecular diagnostics, known for high-quality qPCR solutions in infectious diseases. Building on this strong foundation we recently launched a major technological expansion. We are integrating Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Third-Generation Sequencing into our core portfolio to unlock new frontiers in precision diagnostics. The NGS department will operate on a dedicated floor with specialized laboratories, offices and meeting rooms at its disposal.
To achieve this ambitious goal, we are filling the following position at our Vienna location:
Head of NGS & Assay Development (m/f/d)
Full-time (permanent)
Your Mission
- Build and lead the new NGS department: Initially the team will consist of you, two laboratory scientists and an external expert who will support the setup process. The laboratory scientists will report directly to you and shall join the ingenetix team together with you. The NGS department will also be supported by the existing product management, quality management, and IT team. It is your goal to grow the team, and foster a productive, innovative-driven environment. The role is designed as a mixture of management tasks and hands-on lab experiments.
- Product development: Design, develop and optimize NGS-based solutions for infectious disease diagnostics (liquid biopsy, metagenomics, targeted sequencing) from concept to market readiness.
- Ensure regulatory & quality compliance: in close collaboration with Quality Management, ensure that all developments meet regulatory & compliance goals such as IVDR or ISO 13485.
- Manage cross-functional interfaces: work closely with Product management, Production, Sales, and Marketing to meet market demands, translate technical content, and to support clinical studies and validations.
- Build and maintain networks: represent the department at scientific conferences and cultivate collaborations with laboratories, clinics, and key opinion leaders.
What you should bring with you
- Education: Degree in a life science discipline (PhD preferred) such as Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics or a related field.
- Expertise: Several years of relevant experience in NGS assay development, with strong knowledge of common sequencing technologies and bioinformatic data analysis. Experience with IVD-certified product launches is a significant advantage.
- Leadership: Proven experience for leading teams and managing complex projects. You are ready to mentor and guide a growing team.
- Mindset: You are proactive, solution-oriented, and excited by the prospect of setting up new workflows and structures rather than just stepping into existing ones.
- Language Skills: Business-fluent English is required; German is a substantial advantage.
