Your new job at ingenetix

ingenetix GmbH is a specialized leader in molecular diagnostics, known for high-quality qPCR solutions in infectious diseases. Building on this strong foundation we recently launched a major technological expansion. We are integrating Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Third-Generation Sequencing into our core portfolio to unlock new frontiers in precision diagnostics. The NGS department will operate on a dedicated floor with specialized laboratories, offices and meeting rooms at its disposal.

To achieve this ambitious goal, we are filling the following position at our Vienna location:

Laboratory Scientist NGS & Assay Development (m/f/d)

Full-time (permanent)

Your Mission

  • Hands-on Assay Development: Execute hands-on laboratory experiments to develop, optimize, and validate novel NGS-based workflows (focusing on infectious disease diagnostics).
  • Platform Operation: Prepare sequencing libraries and operate state-of-the-art sequencing platforms, including Illumina (MiSeq i100) and Oxford Nanopore (MinION), as well as Promega Sanger systems.
  • Pioneering Work: Work directly under the new Head of NGS & Assay Development to establish initial workflows and define standard operating procedures (SOPs) from scratch.
  • Meticulous Documentation: Ensure all experimental data is accurately recorded and documented in compliance with stringent quality management and regulatory standards (IVDR / ISO 13485) required for commercial product launches.
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization: Actively participate in troubleshooting assay performance, optimizing PCR chemistries (e.g., multi-step/tailed primer approaches), and streamlining protocols for maximum stability and ease-of-use for our end customers.

What you should bring with you

  • Education: BSc or MSc degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, or a related life science discipline.
  • Expertise: Strong, demonstrable hands-on experience with core molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extraction, advanced PCR/RT-PCR design).
  • NGS Experience: Practical experience with NGS library preparation protocols and sequencer operation is a very strong advantage.
  • Bioinformatics: Practical experience with NGS data analysis and custom pipeline building is a strong advantage.
  • Mindset: You are meticulous, detail-oriented, and thrive in a product focused R&D environment. You enjoy the challenge of building and optimizing new protocols rather than just running routine samples.
  • Language Skills: Business-fluent English is required; German is a substantial advantage.

What you can expect

  • A high-impact role with significant room to shape a new core capability within an established company.
  • A dynamic, innovation-focused environment in one of the fastest-growing segments of the healthcare industry.
  • Modern office and laboratory facilities with excellent public transport connections (5 minutes to subway line U3).
  • Flat hierarchies, short decision-making paths, and a collegial culture.
  • Benefits including flexible working hours, public transport ticket, meal allowance, and regular employee events.
  • A competitive salary package starting at gross € 50,000 per year (full-time), with willingness to overpay depending on qualifications and experience.
